Abstract

Universities are coping with changing enrollment trends in CIS programs while attempting to determine which courses best prepare our students for future IT/CIS careers.  By sharing information gathered from university websites, the presenter will discuss findings when she examined the course offerings for IT/CIS majors at selected 4-year Texas universities.

Universities chosen for inclusion herein were initially selected from those listed on The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (www.aacsb.edu) website as being accredited in business AND with majors in CIS or MIS AND in the state of Texas.  Once this list was determined, the top universities in the state of Texas, which were listed on the US News and World Report Annual listing of Top Universities for 2007 and also on the list from AACSB + those additional institutions with largest enrollments were used for analysis.  The courses required for CIS/MIS majors, the number of credit hours required in the major, and the course hours required were compared using the ten schools selected.  Differences found between the various institutions and similarities observed are presented in this presentation.
