President’s Message Greetings, What a great conference! We are receiving emails and phone calls congratulating us for the high quality of presentations and student posters, conference program, organization, hotel, food, and entertainment. We appreciate it and owe it to you and others who worked so hard to ensure that the ACET 2007 conference was a great success. The 2007 ACET Conference sponsors were absolutely great and we owe our gratitude to Tom Dent and Patrick Koster from Adobe; George Warren from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD); Julianne Peterson and Kelly Holliday from Cengage (formerly Thomson Learning); Ransey Bowen from McGraw-Hill; Brook Matthews, Lauren Keibler, Katy Kelly, and Amanda Tilley from Pearson Education (includes Addison Wesley & Prentice-Hall); and, Suzie Edwards and Carie Addis from Wiley. My special thanks also goes to the Board of Directors for working so diligently to bring you the remarkable conference – Robert Nelson for his relentless leadership and for administering the ACET web site, Mary Myers for arranging Board teleconferences and keeping minutes of various Board meetings, Nora McCarthy for keeping the organization’s finances in order and acquiring conference gifts, Donnell Payne for securing sponsors and vendors, Mel Damodaran for Chairing the Elections Committee and providing us with a healthy slate of Board nominees, Judith Bennett for devising and administering the Student Poster sessions while managing local arrangements, Vicky Cereijo for administering the organization’s ListServ and handling conference publicity, and Ruth Robbins for her work on the ACET journal and procuring conference prizes. Please join me in welcoming three new Board members – Amelia Maretka, Joe Ruiz Jr., and Hajar Sanders; as well as five auxiliary Board members – Mehdi Balouchestani, Eric Evans, Robert Fisher, Nancy Leveille and Tim McGuire. I am proud to be a member of this Board, and believe that together we can deliver yet another grand conference next year on October 2-4, 2008 in Austin, with the conference theme of Digital Education: Beyond the City Limits! In addition to organizing and delivering an extraordinary conference in 2008, our goals for the coming year are to build a solid membership database, to finalize online registration using PayPal, and to enthusiastically promote the organization. We hope that you would join us by considering taking an active role in the organization and helping us achieve these worthy goals. Please visit the ACET membership page at http://www.texasacet.org/Membership.htm, complete and email your membership form to texasacet@yahoo.com. Needless to say, your support by spreading the word and inviting your colleagues to join ACET is greatly appreciated. If you are a first-year full-time computer faculty or if you know of someone who is, please review the ACET Bob Hamilton Scholarship information posted at http://texasacet.org/forms/HamiltonScholarship.pdf , complete the form and email it to texasacet@yahoo.com. We welcome your comments texas@texasacet.org and look forward to receiving suggestions as to how, together, we may further enhance computer education in the State of Texas. Have a great year and hope to hear from you. Shohreh Hashemi |
